I just bullet-proofed my 2005 6.0 with new egr cooler and oil cooler from bullet-proof, after putting it back together I now have a surging problem with the engine. I took it to the ford dealer, no codes, both techs were stumped. Thinking it might be the engine harness. Has anyone had any experience with this?
I would suspect you have trash on your IPR valve screen (under/behind the turbo). Pull the valve and see if the screen is covered with trash and/or torn. If the screen is torn then replace the valve.
Hey man, I'm the one who looked at your truck today. I figured I'd find a post on here about it. I'm trying to dig a little deeper right now and get some opinions from other guys on what your truck might be doing. I will keep you posted
For everyone else, this truck has a cyclical surge around 15-20 psi. you can see it being commanded in EGR duty cycle, VGT duty cycle and it shows up well on EBP but everything else looks okay. unplugging the egr valve made no change and you can't see anything abnormal in ICP voltage. I'm starting to wonder if it's a VGT solenoid problem.
The only thing I did find was the main engine harness connector in the FICM is slightly loose but moving it around did not seem to change anything
I cleaned the ipr screen when I installed the new coolers but I will check it again on saturday. Thanks for the detailed post sinner6.0L, I,ll let you know what Happens. How do I check the VGT solinoid?
There really is no way to check it, especially if its a non electrical related failure. You could pull it out and visually check the screens and o-rings but that is about it.
From what I've heard so far the VGT solenoid is still a good guess for your concern. I had a known good used solenoid but unfortunately we just put it on another truck. We stock a vgt but you can get parts much cheaper online. If you decide to buy anything check out tousleyfordparts.com, they sell parts at 10% over cost and to be honest that's what I pay from the dealership
don't hesitate to ask for part numbers either I can usually find them fairly easy
