03 6.0 to 04 6.0 engine swap?
Here's the deal. The shop I work at just bought a not running 03 F250 6.0 with 140,000 miles on it. They paid $3500 for the truck. It's a rather nice crew cab short bed truck. After checking it out I found it had been severely overheated.
The glow plug harnesses had started to melt it got so hot. Pulled the oil filter and all that was left of the filter standpipe was a molten plastic blob. I took the oil cooler housing apart and found blobs of melted plastic starting to ooz there way in there. Also the turbo is shot.
We're not going to try and do anything with this engine. It's obvious this one is toast. I don't trust a single hard part on the thing now. Have alot of cores now but that's about it.
We're kicking around ideas and would like to find a wrecked truck to buy and do an engine swap with that. Seeing as this is an 03 engine though it really limits trying to find a donor.
So my question is, has anyone done a later engine swap into an 03 model year? What all would have to be changed? Obviously with a donor engine I would like to keep it as complete as possible. Anyone had issues with swapping the wiring harnesses? Which PCM/FICM combo would work best? Besides the obvious mechanical differences I thought the 04 style ran slightly higher ICP pressures.
Any thoughts or ideas on this would be helpful. Thanks!
