2005 6.0 really hard to start???

my 6.0 like title says is really hard to start even with no tune on it some times i have to give it a shot of starting fluid when it finally starts it runs ruff and blows blue smoke out till it is warmed up other than that during the day when i shut my truck off it starts up just fine its only the first start of the day ?? any ideas i was guessing glow plugs are bad ????

How long have you been doing ether shots? Starting fluid isn't good for diesels assuming you have working glow plugs. Messes with the combustion chambers and pistons after repeated use or excess quantity.

Throwing any codes?

Can you monitor ICP and IPR DC?

FICM tested good?

glow plugs dont usually go bad on 6.0's, your more likely looking at a weak ficm.

how do i test the ficm ??? and if its bad do i get it fixed or buy a new one with a mild tune to it ?? i dont know much about this part of these trucks

dude i dont even know what all that means lol like the icp ipr dc and no engine light just hard when it starts like ill crank it it will fire up but lopes real hard from 500 to 1000 rpms and just dumping smoke out then it will rev up to about 2000 rpm and runs fine like it never happened ??? its weird

Exact same thing happened to my truck, dealer techs attributed that to my FICM being bad. I also had a bad EGR cooler and oil cooler so that may not have helped the situation either

I would check the FICM first. You have to test the voltage...anthing under 48 volts and it's bad
