Torbo is smoking
My 2004' 6.0L egr and oil cooler went out. It had a small coolant leak and the mechanic I took it to didn't think it was a problem. $3k later it was a problem and I was lucky to have not blown the head gasket and engine.
The turbo is now smoking. The truck is running good but I noticed some smoke coming out of the hood. When I lifted it up there was smoke coming from the turbo. The inter cooler tubes feel really hot as well. The inter cooler tubes are way hotter than my 7.3L. The mechanic says the turbo is bad but it only has 150k miles and the truck has lots of power. He says the oil is not properly cooling or lubricating the turbo. Any ideas? Thanks. |

Pull the back exhaust clamp off (one going to the down pipe) and see if you have any oil leaking out of it. Easy ten minute job with a 7/16th inch socket. That was an easy tell tale sign that mine was toast.
