Blown engine!!!!

04 f350 6.0 191000 k, oil pressure dropped and dealer is saying my engine is shot. they saying it will cost $15000 to replace engine. Has anyone done a reman engine not from a dealership??? i found some for $5000, if i do that i can spend $8000 on upgrades and still be money ahead. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Did they say specifically what the issue/issues are? You can definitely find a used motor and do some serious upgrades and still be in it for less than $15k. Not sure the exact specifics on your truck other than it's an '04 but it's probably only worth $15k-$20k...have you considered buying another truck in that same price range?

i was pulling in my driveway and my check gauges light came on, lookd and had no oil pressure so i shut it down and rolled the rest of the way. it still cranked when it was here. i called the dealership and they came and picked it up. they said it had the wrong oil filter in it and the oil pressure sending unit was bad. they fixd that and said it didnt fix it. they said the hpop seems fine but they are 995 sure the engine is junk. im wondering if they didnt change the sending unit and let it run and it junked motor while in the shop. i have had no other problems with it.

Any engine with a Heui system will not run without oil pressure because it takes oil pressure to feed the high pressure oil pump in order to fire the injectors. The low pressure oil pump could've went out and it could've been from a failed lifter which would make sense because the camshaft would need to be replaced which would require removal of crankshaft and most dealers wont go that far they will simply tell you you need an engine. Did the say anything about the low pressure oil pump?? Could be stuck oil pressure regulator too. I wonder if the drainback valve was still in place?? You need to dig deeper and get a better reason for engine replacement.

If you drop oil pressure in a Power Stroke, it just shuts the motor down because there is no oil pressure to fire the injectors. I really doubt the engine is junk. I'm gonna say you have a HPO leak in the system and not allowing enough pressure to build. The ICP sensor has to see a minimum of 500 PSI to start. I would get the truck to someone else for a second opinion.
