Flash Question
A buddy of mine recently bought a 2006 Ford F250 Super Duty with the 6.0 and he did most of the mods/upgrades I did to my truck. So, here is the question. with the RCD EGR delete kit, he has asked me whether or not he should have the truck reflashed in order to smooth out the rough idle situation. The truck has plenty of power, but it idles super rough, like it has a slight miss. The truck is throwing two codes, I believe it was the P0403 and P0405(I think it was, but they were related to the EGR). So, I told him it seemed the truck was running a bit rich also as it smelled a bit like it and also threw a bit of black smoke when he punched the pedal. Any thoughts?

The 0403 and 0405 are standard codes for a EGR delete if the EGR valve is not connected. Depending if you have the latest flash might also be a problem with that. The latest flash wants the egr valve to be plugged in regardless, this could be causing the rough idle and rich smell. If the egr valve is not plugged in, I would try plugging it back in and zip tie it so it can't bounce around and see if it makes a difference. You should be getting a CEL if you don't have a SCT to shut off the EGR in an 06, if I am not mistaken. A little bit of black smoke when you punch it is not out of the ordinary either.

Thanks for the response. I do not have the old EGR valve(or at least I can't find it). I do have a CEL and I do not have a tuner. So, if I do purchase a tuner, this should clear up my issue right? I am getting no other codes on the truck, only the P0403 and P0405. Thanks!

Correct, those codes are from the EGR delete. You will need an SCT programmer that has the option to turn off the EGR CEL. I personnally don't use an SCT and I would start another thread or use the search feature to find out which type would be best for your needs. The SCT programmers require tunes, some are "canned" others are customized depending on your needs. I don't have any experience with these, but many others on this site have extensive experience with the SCT programmers and tunes. Good luck.
