What is a good diagnostic scanner

I am looking to buy a good diagnostic scanner to check to see what codes come up on my truck. Any recommendations of brand? Can I get one at a local autoshop or are the good ones online only?

I own one with the Enhanced Ford Expansion. You can monitor from a Laptop driving or a PC in your garage. It gives you real time on what your engine is doing.
