we've had the truck for about a year, and a month or so ago its been giving us problems. Its doingf some odd chugging. Most of the time only when its idling. Sometimes it will die. On the highway the other day we noticed it made the same sort of chugging but at very high speeds.
A buddy of ours mentioned that we could possibly be getting water in the fuel lines, so my dad has been reguarly draining the water from the seperator thing near the drivers door. Anybody got any ideas? |

I've never pulled mine because my truck runs like a dream. I've been told it won't hurt anything at all and a lot of people who had earlier 6.0's especially, swear by running without it. Some say it does wonders - I figure it wouldn't be a big deal for you to pull it just to see if the problem goes away. If it fixes it you could then leave it off or have the dealer replace it. I Google'd it and got this; "The EGR is located on a small black cylinder (the black cylinder is the valve itself) right between the oil filter housing and intake elbow on top of the motor-just pull the plug. Under the hood of the vehicle, look direcly to the center of the top of the motor. You will see a large black cylinder sticking out of the top of the motor; it is the largest object front-side of the turbocharger. Direcly in front of it will be a smaller black cylinder, with a 4-wire weatherpack connector on top. Reach down, pull the tab on the backside of the plug, and remove it. This will disconnect the EGR valve. (Ensure that the switch to the vehicle is off before pulling it, the vehicle must be off to ensure the valve is closed. Otherwise, it is possible to lock it in the open position.)"

we recently got a recall notice in the mail for all 6.0 powerstroke motors (i cant remmeber what years it included, but ours is 2004) for a bad wiring harness somewhere. It claimed to have been able to cause problems within the fuel system, including our exact problems. needless to say its in the shop for that recall right now. we'll see if that fixes the problem (which im assuming it wil) if not, i'll try the egr valve, thanks!

Well, since i busted my car at the track wednesday, I've been driving the harley truck. Seems to be running great since the dealership had it. My dad and i work opposite shifts though so i havent had the chance to ask him if they mentioned any problems with the injectors. I told him to mention it when he dropped it off so i hope they at least checked them out. I'll let ya know if we ended up having any injectors replaced.

Total Recall
Isn't it amazing how this stuff gets by the manufacturers? I mean they have to test the engines that come out thoroughly of course. Maybe not long enough. Or perhaps they're still testing when the vehicles come out and eventually that's when they discover the problem. Oh well...I'm not the expert!
