I use a socket and rachet to remove mine but it is so snug that I think I am going to break housing off the frame. This is normal?

Changed mine recently forthe first time since buying the truck...like to have NEVER got it off....then discovered it had been cross-threaded by the previous owner!!! THEN...almost never got it back on! I am gonna try a belt or chain wrench next time and then am gonna put a billet cap on. It is less expensive than the Ford original replacement plastic cap.
