How do you air chisel it off, I tried to search for the video but i couldnt find it.
I am in the process of doing my hg's/studs right now and i need to know how to chisel it off.
I have already tried a few combos with a masive pipe wrench and a cheater
ive got air tools, just dont know where I should apply this to the nut itself?
I also realized that I didnt need to unloosen those 4 (10mm) bolts going to the back it looks like I did that and its just secured to a plate type washer.
For future reference most parst houses rent the fan removal tools. You put a deposit and when ya bring em back you get your money back so basically its free rent.
If ya have been banging on it in the wrong direction you have really tightened the begesess out of it. May take some real work to get it off now.
If ya rent the proper wrenches you will need to re-install those 4 bolts, the back up wrench fits on them. They do make a wrench that uses an air chisel gun but it is real exspensive, the air chisel is used as an impact driver/hammer.
i reinstalled the bolts, and its a regular thread for the fan itself. Apparently the reverse thread are on 6.4's I just cant budge it. Guess ill go rent those tools.
I wish ya luck it can be a real bugger. I have found that sometimes tapping straight down on the nut on the end of the wrench will help. Just tap sharply a few times the object is to jar/vibrate the connection to help loosen the nut. Rotate the fan till a different flat is up and repeat a few times.
I used a big pipe wrench and a hammer, and used metal punches to hold the pulley bracket off, and you do not need to loosen those 4 bolts, actually u want them on there.
For future reference, on ANY vehicle that the fan rotates in the opposite direction as the engine crankshaft, the correct way to loosen the fan is COUNTERCLOCKWISE (right hand thread). On any engine where the fan rotates in the same direction as the crankshaft, the correct way to loosen the fan is CLOCKWISE (left hand thread). The 6.4L and Ford Aerostar/Ranger 3.0L and some 6.9/7.3L IDI engines are some examples of left hand thread applications that come to mind.

I'm really curious. What engine has a fan that turns opposite engine rotation? Seems to me that it would have to be gear driven or have a crossed belt. Even the air cooled Deutz diesels don't do that. Hmm.
And FWIW, all reciprocating gas & diesel engines are left hand rotation except some marine applications that require counter rotating engines.
That's absolutely amazing. That makes the first instance I've heard of where a serpentine belt powers off the back side. You're a great guy for humbly supplying that info to this uninformed newbie.
Don't be a cheapskate. Just buy the fan removal tool set. It makes it a breeze and you don't f... anything up. I've used mine a handful of times and its well worth the money.
I had to the water pump on my Expy, got everything out of the way and whacked that fan clutch nut with a ball peen hammer on the flat, and then rented the tool and used an adjustable and a big pipe, popped right off. just gotta give it some love and it'll pop.
