6.0 egr/remote oil cooler

I love my 2005 6.0 excursuion, but at about 130k the egr cooler failed and the heads, had the heads replaced and went with the stud bolt upgrade.
Very expensive........

About 3000 miles later the oil cooler clogs and causes the EGR cooler to fail again also the turbo was leaking oil. Replace oil cooler EGR again and Turbo
Not as expensive as the first time but not cheap..........

Questions
1. Has anybody done the remote oil coolers and is it worth it?
2. Will an EGR delete harm or lower MPG or the performance?
3. How do you reprogram the truck to keep the check engine light off if you do delete the EGR cooler?
4. what is the best synthetic oil to use?

3. How do you reprogram the truck to keep the check engine light off if you do delete the EGR cooler? Run a custom tune from your SCT that has the EGR functions disabled
4. what is the best synthetic oil to use? This is a VERY spirited debate topic. I myself run Valvoline conventional 15W40 and change every 5k miles.

I assume you have to buy a hadheld programmer of some sort.

I am not wanting to race the truck or anything, is it possible to just buy a chip or something that would not have to be re programmed?

Not only does the egr delete help mpg it also lowers egt. I go my tuner and tune from elite diesel eng along with changeing the top speed and lots of things. I personally like rotella oil, been running it in my big rig for a long time so I also use in in my ford with good results. Don't know about the remote oil cooler, haven't gotten around to that yet.

Yes, you will need an SCT to load the tune. Call Innovative Diesel and have Eric write you a custom tune based on what you want to do with the truck. A street tune sounds like what you want; a considerable power increase without going crazy.

Just found out from dealer my oil cooler and egr cooler are done they want 2600.00....................I think i will do this myself.... any leads on good aftermarket products would be appreciated

we can get you a full EGR delete kit and oil cooler rebuild, you can DIY and save some bucks!!

You may run into problems passing state inspection with a EGR delete
