Had my previous thread about my Excursion just dying during the highway cruise, had it towed to the dealership, and it ended up being HPOP pump. Now my question is, 2 weeks ago i replaced all 8 injectors, and a mechanical fuel pump at the tune of $3600. This week HPOP was shot and to have that fixed costed me $1,900.... WHAT next major thing i could expect to go bad, or should I be OK now for a while? Is HPOP failure maybe caused by new injectors?? I have 160,000 on the truck, and its 03 6.0. Not really sure should I keep it now, and try to get my money worth out of it, or to consider selling it before something major happens again at the high $$$$$$$$$$$ rate!
At THAT mileage, it wouldn't surprise me if the HPOP failed on a 2003 engine. Although the propensity for injector failures are greater on the 2003 model years, I would speculate that the dealer quoting all eight, did so to save you from having to pay the further labour to replace more injectors in the near future. I'm assuming by mechanical pump, you mean the frame mounted HFCM which I suspect wasn't putting out sufficient fuel pressure which likely caused your injector failure(s). For what it's worth, REGULAR oil changes are that much more important on these engines due to engine oil actually being used to operate the injectors. By regular I mean every 3,000 miles (5,000 kms.)with Ford/Motorcraft 10W30 oil.
I had 5 bad injectors, so they decided to do all 8 because they were bad on both sides of the engine.... Injector failure was caused by low pressure from the fuel pump...
I use synthetic Rotella 5w-40 oil, and change it every 4-5k miles. Am I ok, or should I go to 10W-30 MC oil.?.. Not really sure if my dealers even carry it as they gave me weird looks when i asked them for MC synthetic... That was $45 bux a 5qt jug!

Thanks for your reply MCHAN!!!
Holy S*H*I*T. And we get called STEALERSHIPS!!! Our 1 gallon jugs of 5W40 Synthetic is about $30 CDN (which you would need 4). 5W40 Synthetic is fine if you don't mind spending the extra money for it. But other than that, 10W30 MC is the oil these engines like. I hope they changed the fuel pressure regulator too after all this work (look for part number 3C3Z-9T517-AE on the parts list). If not, I would have that replaced too, for how cheap this part is.
It is a fuel pressure regulator kit that is secured to the secondary fuel filter housing to the return line with four small Torx screws. Replacement should be self-evident when you see the parts.
Great! I will take a look at it in the morning....
Thanks and I really do appreciate all of your help!!
