Changing the FICM

If I buy a new ficm from ford, and change it myself,will the truck run or will I need ford to program it?

Ford will have to flash/program it before it will work.

Buy a rebuilt one from Swamps Diesel. The new Inductive heating cycle program flash that was done almost a year aago now runs 30amps of power through the FICM vs the 7amp it was originally designed for. The Rebuilt ones from Swamps have heavy duty components that dont over heat and melt the solder off the circuit board. Here is the kicker $$$$$$$ Ford charges $7-900 plus $200 to program it. The worse thing about the $200 they charge you is its the same program from 03-07 6.0!!! Swamps heavy duty rebuild with programing, $350!!!!

I have had one in my truck now for a little over a month, and I went with a higher voltage one, and I love it!!

if you get one from ford it will have to be flashed to your truck or it wont start. if you get a used one or one from a supplier on here it will alrready be programmed and will run. if you buy one used I would ttake it to the deealer and get the latest flash uploaded to be safe.

Swamps has the latest update so they will flash it current...

Thank you for the info,I will keep swamps in mind,but I live in northern Manitoba, Canada and getting stuff from the States sometimes can be a hassle. Thanks again.

So what your saying is that FICM from the dealer is going to cost you $1200 plus tuning because you are in CA?

AFBLUE I was refering to buying one used (ebay, craiglist ect) to take it to the dealer and have it updated to the latest stratagy. sorry if i wasnt clear.

Yeah sorry about that. Didnt mean anything by it. I guess I am just overwhelmed with how well Swamps worked out for me, and giving them a for other people to look at.

Just ordered a new FICM from Swamps, 58v/30amp be here in a week, for $400cdn I have to give it a try, plus the tech explaned to me how the stock ficm works vs the ficm they build and it only makes sense as to the reason why the stock ficm fails, Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction. Next, egr delete , 4 inch exhaust , already have k&N cold air should have no problem pulling my 34 ft camper and the two Harleys this summer.
