EGR Cooler.... drats

So I have confirmed that my EGR Cooler is bad... unfortunately I have owned the truck for only a few weeks now. I'd like to do the bulletproof diesel upgrade and new oil cooler of course. I was wondering since shops are pretty pricey how difficult of a task is this? And this may be a long shot but are there any technicians/mechanics in my area that would be willing to help out (compensated of course).

Whereabouts are you located? I see your profile indicates Windsor CALIFORNIA. I live in Canada. If you were a little closer, I would be happy to help you out.

You can probably do it. I did mine with the same Bulletproof stuff in January, and I have never done anything to this truck except regular maintenance. If you are good with a wrench then you should be able to pull this one off. The only real issue I had was an IPR valve failure after doing the job, which is common enough that Ford has a service bulletin about it. Make sure you clean the entire area around the oil cooler thoroughly before opening it up to ensure no debris gets inside. If you want a few more tips (that a pro might not think to tell a rookie), pm me. I also paid for the subscription repair manual service that Bulletproof recommends, so I have that info as well.

I may end up doing that because I had it in the shop for a diagnostic and they're taking forever to come up with a quote, another shop quoted me $2200 for the bulletproof stuff installed out the door. I'm good with a wrench but like most I'm somewhat hesitant to venture into new territory without guidance. And the Chilton manual needs more/better pics lol.
