Please help.

I found a 03 F-350 with a 6.0 that a guy will trade for my V-10 Excursion, he said it had a bad fuel pump. He emailed me tonight and said he put a new one on and it will run, but only if he holds the pedal at around 1500 RPMs.
I have never had a 6.0 and dont even no where to begin. He said he talked to a mechanic and he said it is probly a fuel injection control moduel, is there any way to tell or does anyone have an idea of what it may be? He said it has good oil pressure. Its a 03 with 150,xxx miles.
