hiccups

My 04 F-250 is doing the same thing and I'm getting the run around from the dealer because they have to verify that the truck is doing that. I'm trying to get a vehicle data recorder to put in my truck for my next trip. I pull a 36 ft 5'er and it doesn't look good with that black smoke coming from the tail pipe.

hiccups causing heartburn

Gentlemen,
sorry I've been away, just and update on my hiccup problem, I had the turbo replaced which brought back alot of power to my truck, but I still had the hiccups, I took it back and they found the egr was stuck and the egt sensor was bias. I just came back from the lake pulling my 9k fifth wheel and it ran like a top, pulling a through the full range without a problem.

I had the same problem with 05 PSD pulling in the Blackhills of S.D. I had to get into mine before the hiccupping would stop. I took mine in for recall work and told them about the problem. The tech said he thought it could be the VGT acutator and they replaced since it didn't pass the test. Haven't had the problem since and I just got back from camping, pulling my 30' fifth wheel and my 18' pontoon in tandem. Not one hiccup occurred, this was a really bad proble in the past. Hope this helps out.

try taking it in and ask the dealer about getting the latest and greatest programming. it virtually eliminates the EBP from the computers stratagy and there is a re-learning they put the turbo through........Marc

Marc,

Thanks for the reply but I already did that phase of the trial and error process of the dealer. I still get black smoke and the next pahse is to put a VDR in the truck next time I am towing. I hope this gets me better results.

Mark

Hiccups

I finally got somewhere with my dealer on the Hiccup problems... I hope! I had it back in for the third time and they hooked up a VDR to my truck and the EGR appears to be the problem? I still will not know until tomorrow when I hook up to my 5'er and take our next trip. I will let you all know if this was the fix.

Thanks for all the input

Mark

I'm the guilty party that started the whole 'hiccup' thing. Well, I'm finally running good. First, they (Ford) replaced the "O" rings on 2 injectors. Helped but still had hiccups. Next, the replaced the VGT Actuator and oil line wuz replaced. Helped a bit more, but still not 100%. In the middle of my vacation, I got agrivated enough to disconnect the EGT valve. Helped immensily, but still had some hesitation, so I bit the bullet, dug out my 5/16 socket, pulled the EGR valve, went thru a full can of carb cleaner. Dang, truck runs better that it did when it wuz new (only have 17,000 miles on it). Doesn't take as much boost to get up to speed pulling my 13,000 Lb 5W trailer and it seems to require less boost than before to keep it there.
