I agree. You can thank FoMoCo and their wonderful misleading TSBs (To Save our Butts?) as yet another attempt on cheaping out on the average 6.0L owner for a "quick fix". For what it's worth, when the FICM is replaced at the dealership, programming of the new replacement FICM automatically reprograms the PCM and TCM as well, to the latest (and greatest?) calibration level, provided the dealership scan tool is kept up to date with the latest level software. To tell you the truth, I don't think even FoMoCo will admit that they still haven't figured out the root cause of the high rates of failures of these FICMs. There has been too much speculation and conjecture as to the cause, which has very quickly been proven to be untrue. If the soldering fix IS in fact an effective repair, it wouldn't surprise me if a new TSB is published to have us dealer techs doing this repair on the warranty level.
