dont know. it doenst want to replicate it now that i have something to monitor it with. tomorrow should be better. i'm thinking its a HPOil leak but because it's 12 degrees outside right now the engine/oil cools fast enough to make it not happen. tomorrow will be warmer during the day and i can play with it more.
only question is where is it leaking from.....dummy plug o ring, stand pipe o ring, in the injector? given that it does start and this is an intermittent thing i think i can almost rule out a bad HPOP but atmospheric conditions can and do affect metal and rubber and stuff....shrinking, expanding, etc.

If you icp pressure when cranking hot aka(at a time it won't start) is :

~300-350psi most likely a dummy plug o ring (if you replace them start with the passenger side its the most problematic)
<50psi or there abouts most likely sct fitting

Source- a good friend who is a mechanic and just fixed mine last week with the same exact problem(mine was passenger side dummy plug o ring)

I tried the sct fitting first and didn't fix mine

My cranking icp pressure was usually ~330psi

nice. thanks. now the upgrades....are they something you buy one at a time or as a set? how long of a process is it to replace the dummy plug o rings and upper stand pipe o rings? anything else that should be replaced while i'm in there?

Well if ur pulling both valve covers, the turbo, and the pump, i would say every oil ring you find, all the injector oilrings... And if you know how, since you have the turbo out i would pop the exaust side open, clean it and soke all the veins and and area in wd 40... But thats just me

i'm not gonna pull the pump. i'm planning on pulling the turbo and valve covers. my understanding is the lower stand pipe o rings dont go to often so for me, it wouldn't be worth the extra work. the o rings in the upper stand pipes and a dummy plugs are what goes. am i correct so far? so me as a pretty good gas engine mechanic and new to diesels i think thats as far as i'll go this time around. question, how do i know if i have a bad injector? or, as i'm assuming (like a bad injector in a gas engine) would that have different symptoms all together (i.e. starts but runs rough, lacks power, etc)? so assuming the injectors are good and i want to replace to major problem orings on both sides, i'm looking for 2 for each dummy plug, 2 for the upper stand pipe...any others? i want to make a shopping list for when i go to ford.

If your scantool really supports ford, the 6.0 is really good at giving you a code for wich injector is bad... Well i should say wich cylinder is not contributing

yeah that's why I asked what year you had and if the ICP was on the valvecover. So it's definitely an 04 with a wavy rail, unfortunately that doesn't help much more at this point, it could be damn near anything including the high pressure pump. The 04s don't have common spots I go hunting for like 05+

If the standpipes are original it could be a leak there but the square drive dummy plugs on 04s don't leak. I guess the next step is to actually verify it is a leak
