Smile Engine light On, Tran Oil temp gauge wont register, check guages light on

Hi Everyone,

I have a 2004 Ford Excursion Diesel 6.0l it just turned 63k and now the check engine light is on, tow/haul light is on and flashing, the check guage light is on and flashing, and the Trans temp guage wont read.

Here is what happens when I start it cold the check engine light stays on. As I drive it about 7 miles the Tranny warms up and the Trans temp guage goes to the middle then it just stops reading them trans temp goes to cold, the check guage starts to flash and then the tow/haul light comes on and flashes.

I am wondering if i need to service the transmission. There is plenty of oil on the dipstick. the oil looks clean not burnt.

If I service it do i have to drop the pan to change the filter or is it on the out side?

I do most of my own work but my last vehicle was a 1988 toyota landcruiser that had over 315k on it and i could take that thing apart in the dark and put it back together. I am all new to the diesel world and woud appreciate any help.

Also I think i need to buy a code reader any suggestion on what i should get.

Thank you in advance for any help....

Ya need to take it to a tranny shop and let the read it an test. It probably could use service as well. The tow haul lite flashing means the tranny has a problem. The gauge may be bad or its problem is related to whatever the tranny problem is.

To me, it sounds as if the OP has an issue with the TFT sensor. My money is on a P0710 TFT sensor grounded/open is set, causing a loss of transmission fluid temperature reading.

guamdude-start a new thread. You will get more answers that way as opposed to resurrecting 2 year old posts. Start a new thread, and PM me. I'll come in and try to help you.
