What scanner to use

After reading these postings and trying to trouble shoot my truck, I see the need for a scanner which will read the sensors in my truck. My scanner gives me the trouble codes but does not let me command devices or give me values for all sensors. Are there scanners that will do these for a reasonable price? What are being used? Thanks for your help.

By commanding devices you mean able to activate sensors at will, change parameters you are referring to a device with pass thru cpabilities none of which are cheap. This is a dealer level tool you are talking about. Ford now uses the Rotunda device that works thru a laptop computer. Around $2100.00 The older Ford Star testers can be upgraded from the Star 5 i believe to current levels around $3500.00 for a good used one.

Snap-on has one they claim is capable from $2500.00 to $12,000.00 depending on software packages.

For the home user any of the common generic scanners that can do live data stream and buzz test the injectors will do. These can be had for only a couple hundred.
