Road trip...Check engine

Coming home from Glamis back to San jose my check engine light came on...engine seems fine but tranny is shifting hard and my brakes feel like $#!%

Havent checked codes but figured if you guys had any ideas...lots of sand in Glamis if that helps.

Update...the truck was sitting all day, started fine, and then sat for another three hours and then it was really hard to start. It was turning over but it would never fully start. After about three attempts it finally started. Any ideas now?

Any one know of a good diesel mechanic shop near San Jose, CA?

Someone please chime in...I don't want to get screwed by the dealership.

So you don't think its my high pressure oil system? I haven't driven it for three days. Ford told me they are booked until next tuesday so I just left the truck on the back burner because I'm afraid of the worst. How much would repairs be? Just a ballpark price?

By the way, thanks for the response...it helps.
