cold starting issues

my truck is having sever cold starting issues when not being run daily. When I go to start my truck I let the glow plugs cycle twice before trying to fire. Then my truck sounds like it barely has enough juice to turn over. It then cranks clowly for a few seconds then starts. The truck then violently shakes back and forth for a few minutes. I then try and drive it with the start still shacking back and forth because of the truck idiling between 800 then jumping to 1000 then back to 800 etc. The truck barely maintains 30 mph and does not want to shift.

Once the engine warms up it runs fine. It starts fine after the initial start and runs great. This only happens on the start of the day; especially if i did not drive my truck the night before. I also have the cold weather reflash on my truck.

I think my glow plugs are bad. my alternator is brand new so I don't know why it seems that my batteries are draining overnight. I did not have any problems this summer but now that the weather is getting colder the truck has become warm blooded. Also truck is stock; no tuners on it.

Thanks in advance. I really hope to solve this issue asap

I guess 6.0's have glow plug relays just like 7.3's. If they do then that sounds like your problem. How many miles you got on the truck. Your batteries could be weak and causing it to crank slow in cold weather. Also if your turck is shaking violently then give it a couple munites to warm up, DON'T drive it.

my batteries are both fine. I had them tested. Truck has 80,000 miles on it.

It was 64 degrees out this morning. I cycled the glow plugs only once because it was warm out. I let the truck idle for 2 minutes and went to drive it. The truck was bogging down and blowing white smoke. It continuied blowing white smoke until I let off the throttle. It did this twice and then seemed to run fine. It ran fine all day(drove about 200 miles). The truck did not shake either and started up without any hesitation/problems at all.

I think its either a clogged egr cooler or my injectors are warn/sticking.

Does anyone have any insight on this problem. My buddy will come this week and read my codes. Thanlks
