FICM question

Well my ficm finally took a dump today. Went to start the truck and it wouldn't start. It had codes for all 8 injector circuits low. Question is can I get a ficm out of another 6.0 truck that's already programmed and ready to go and will it work? Or do I have to take it to ford and get the strategy changed? Also I have an 06 and do I have to get a ficm from another 06 or can it be a ficm from any year 06? Thanks.

You can get a ficm out of any 6.0l but it will still have to be flashed.

How come does it need to be flashed If I get one off another truck that's already programmed?I'm planning on going to a junk yard and getting one off a 6.0 for like 275. Can't afford a new one

for some odd reason the FICM's need to be flashed to your trucks vin. To be honest, I'm not sure why, but I read it in these forums when I was troubleshooting my truck.

No they don't, just get one from the same year with similar strategy and it should work fine. If it doesn't work you'll get a code for strategy difference, but it will still run. I got a used one from an '04 and it worked in my '03 with ZERO issues.

ah, good to know. if the strategy is off, couldn't that cause injector failure though?

That I don't know, but I wouldn't think so. If its way off you would want to get it programmed soon anyway.

A rule of thumb warning

Now generally being close is good enough, unless you are the lucky owner of a change up model year. A good bit of research should be done before you put on those used parts.

Some year changes have been minor others have been quite drastic and the engine won't even start or runs like hell warmed over.
Something to bear in mind is the FICM is a special purpose computer, but still a computer subject to all the problems anyother computer can have.
File/data corruption is a common thing and a Flash not only adds new data, but also refreshes and restores the data contained in the systems modules.
Each module is itself a mini computer and in turn gets its data refreshed.
