Broken Down 6.0 Help please.

I just had my 04' 6.0 diesel break down on me.
Here are some the things that I noticed.
-White smoke when starting
-Ticking, over the engine sound
I was cruising at 60mph when all of the sudden it sounded like someone through something into a fan, and i heard a lot of clunking. I immediately popped it into neutral and it died. When I finally pulled over and tried to restart, it would crank over and restart but it was really ugly and running rough so I immediatley turned it off.
It is now sitting at a ford dealer where they ONLY tried starting it and said it was more than likely a bad motor. (10,000 new is what they said)
Please help with any ideas...

How many miles? What kind of maintenance? Did you check the vitals oil? Coolant? Did you notice smoke towards the end?

The truck has 105,000 miles, the oil was a little low and I didn't check the coolant. No smoke that I noticed toward the end, only on start up, and when I would rev it. I kept the maint. up on the truck just put new air filter, but it was around 4500 since last oil change.
