6.0 wont go over 1000rpms

i was driving home form work today and my truck ran fine stoped a the corner turned and the truck wouldnt run over 1000 rpms went a little farther like that and the rpms slowly got lower till the motor quit so i started it up and it idled fine but as soon as i hit the gas it still wouldnt go over 1000 rpms i an so confused i changed the fuel filters and still the same thing any ideas guys

Take a look at the air intake tube and hose on the passenger side and see if one end of the tube blow loose. This will degrade performance and give symptoms similiar to yours.

check the egr valve
