Rocker arms getting loose
How common a problem is the rocker arms working loose in a 6.0.
We have 2 of them that this has happened on and 04 f-250 and a 05 f-350 model. The 04 got so loose it bent the rocker arm jamming the intake valve partially open. This caused popping back thru the intake. We had to replace the rocker arm assembly. Luckley the valve did not get bent. We have about a dozen more in the fleet that have loud clatters of varying degrees that we are beginning to suspect that this is the problem. Last edited by dannyboy950; 10-01-2009 at 06:13 PM. Well this has become a little more criticle. We have another 04 that the drivers side head has 5 loose rockers. #6 cylinder's are so loose you can make them rattle with one finger, and almost slip them off the push rods. Will begin tearing into them in the morning.

A chicken or the egg situation
Rockers wearing out, not that uncommon but why only on one side the engine. Most common cause collapsed lifters or lifters not pumping up all the way. Again why only one bank.
So i amguessing that the oil gallery feeding that bank is leaking off some how but not sure how or why.. While I have over 40 yrs diesel experience none of it is with the 6.0, a totaly new animal to me any suggestions appreciated. |
