Sounds like a possible EGR valve or turbo acting up.

I second that had the same problem with my 05 6.0 egr valve sticking and turbo needed cleaned. the reason for the black smoke is lack of air for a complete burn ie. egr valve/turbo problems... GL

Pull your EGR and see if its stuck open. That can cause black smoke.
Also Turbo Veiens stuck open can cause black smoke. But pull the EGR first.

yea just pull it clean and reinstall but make sure you don't damage one of the seals and don't hold it upside down and spray it with anything you don't want any chemicals to get in the upper part of the valve from what i hear
