My truck died on me at a stop light
, no hesitation at all- once I took my foot off of the gas to apply the brake it just died. Started right up and then drove to the next stop light and it died again. Started right up again and drove it back to the rig. Any way, since this has incident, it has made me realize that the truck has been losing power over the past month or so. Going down the road it just doesn’t have the power that it used to have. I drove it from TX to PA for work and now I'm almost afraid to try to go home for fear of it leaving me on the side of the road somewhere in the middle of BFE. When it comes to the motor, besides the oil cooler being replaced twice, new exhaust and a Super chips tuner, nothing has been done to it. I know that what I have to tell you is somewhat vague but that's really all I know at this point. The oil and Air filter were changed about 3000mi ago and I haven’t drove in any dusty conditions so I wouldn’t think that would be it. I would appreciate it if someone could suggest some things that I can do at home before I HAVE to take it to FORD. I’m currently in S.W. PA if anyone might be close and have a hankering to work on a 6.0L with me…lol

Oh, one more thing that I've noticed. While idling I can here a popping sound coming from the intake. Well, I guess I would have to say from the air filter. Kind of like on a gasser when it's out of time or a valve sticking and you can hear a popping sound coming for the exhaust - That's close to the sounds I hear at the air filter...

I left programmer at home... ![]() I guess I could have it overnight to me if I can find an address around here to send it to. I knew I should have brought it with me. Now if I HAVE to take it to FORD they will flash my truck and my programmer will be worthless to me... kind of anyway. I'm in a bind here. 1300mi from home and I don’t know a soul up here in PA. Hell, the FORD shop probably won’t be able to get to it for a couple of weeks... Weeks I do not have. You guys are my only life line here so if anyone can think of anything I can do, I'm more than willing to give it a try. ROCK> me < HARD-SPOT |

Do you have a check engine light on? If not, the programmer will not be of much use. You really need to get diagnostics run on it to see how much ICP pressure you have. AutoEnginuity, Ford IDS, Snap On scanner, or something similar. Those over the counter code readers aren't really going to help you much.

And as far as ford reflashing it if it's a mod friendly shop such as mine there shouldn't be an issue. If the guy tells me that he has a different program in there then i'll work with him.

definitly need to pull codes to know more , if you can just something to try , remove egr valve and see if its stuck open, that can cause it , but should have thrown the light on , remove cap for fuel filter on engine , see if fuel is getting there , but is almost a waste of time without codes to get started , as far as taking it in, they should reflash it to diagnose it , and you can tell them to make sure they dont and dont have to give them a reason why , just tell them you dont want it reflashed

I'm going to try and have the programmer mailed to me that way I can get the codes-if any. In the mean-time, I went outside and it started up and idled just fine. I just let it sit there and run for a while, listening. I didn't hear the popping sound coming from the intake tube. Once it warmed up a bit I started to listen to the exhaust. The truck would be at idle and you could hear the turbo in the exhaust very well. Then all of the sudden the sound was gone and it was just like a gasser setting there running. Meaning you could hear just the exhaust coming through the muffler (no wine to it at all). It stayed that way for about 2 mins. Then I could hear what sounded like the turbo kicking in again. And when the sound of the turbo returns it seems the idle picks up just a tad. While the turbo is making this sound, you can go to the engine compartment and listen to what sounds to me like a faint vacume leak, and once the motor warmed up the faint popping sound was audible from the intake tube. The turbo sound will be there for about 2mins and then its gone. It's like the turbo stops and the vacume leak sound and the turbo sound from the exhaust is gone. Like the turbo is kicking in and out or something like that...
Now if that's normal - I don't know . I will try to have the programmer fedexed up here to get the codes asap. I'm just scared to drive it anywhere with the way things are going...
