help 6.0 or stay with 7.3

Good afternoon
The other night trying to miss a moose I rolled and destroyed my super cool 2000 F 250 7.3. The ins company settled the next day for more than I paid for it so I am shopping. My gut tells me to stay with the 7.3 which I feel is a proven commodity or go to the 6.0, I am going to spend up to 26 thousand. I have found a 2001 7.3 crew shortbox dually w/74000 mi for 21 thousand. I am afraid of the 6.0 ltr because friends have had bad luck with them. Is it all or just some years to stay away from. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Les

What I have read from other members is that the 03 and 04 6.0 had some problems. Seems the 05 and up are pretty reliable other then some egr and turbo problems dont know the specifics. Its really hard to not go with the 7.3 in my opinion. My dad has an 06 and he liked his 02 better. He pulls a 35ft 5th and the 06 is always downshifting where the 02 would just cruise in od no problem. I think for what you want to spend you should try to find a lower mile 7.3 if you can

Glad to hear you're alright Les, that's the most important thing. You're going to get a TON of opinions on this one I'm sure.
No problems with my 6.0 at all and almost to 50K.
