Overheated?

IM not sure exactly what happened here! Got in the truck and drove about 10min noticed it seemed like my fans were running a lot outside temp about 80 and not driving it hard at all. I went up an on ramp to the highway and when I got to the end of the ramp my check gauge light came on I looked down and said I was running hot I Immedialy pulled over and by the time I got pulled over the temp went down really fast to normal! I checked under the hood and some coolant puked out of the cap. The gauge said I was running ok temp went about 10 more min down the road to a buddys and it ran cool and perfect all the way there? What is this about.

thermostat probly stuck closed for a minute. might think bout gettin that changed.

How would i go about changing a thermostat on these bad boys? i think i need to do that.

It should be where the top radiator hose goes into your engine. usualy the part the hose clamps to unbolts and the thermostat is undernieth it.

hmm ok then, should i have to refill my coolant? or flush it out?

you could catch it in a pan and re use it. but most people just take advantage of the situation and do a coolant flush an every thing while their already half way there.

I just put a stat in it less than a year ago. I also took the hose of the top of the stat and it moved with like no effort at all. could it still be bad i guess? Could I have a bad cap? this morning when it was cool I started it let it idle and within like 10min it was venting some steam out of the cap, radiator was cool drove it down the street and back and rad was warm like the stat opened up ran cool? I guess ill change the stat again. no stores opened today though

Good news so far! Went to ford today got a new stat and a new dagas bottle cap! Oh by the way ford came out with a new cap that is better than the old one! Got it all done and ran it pretty good no problems the extra fans never even came on befor they came on two or three time a trip even if it was cool out!
