Power steering

Buddies 2004 looses powersteering as soon as you let of diesel pedal. Flushed it with new fluid. Didn't help. Plus it sometimes don't want to stop. Does it have a vacuum problem or need a new powersteering pump?

Sounds to me like the power steering pump must have just become weak. How well do his brakes work( because the PS system acts as a hydrobooster for the breakes). Because of the weak pump the engine has to run at a higher rpm to turn over the PS pump faster to create easier steering.

Sometimes work fine others won't stop. Power steering pump isn't much. Doesn't look hard to change has anyone done it?

I just had the brake booster and PS pump changed. I guess it gets contaminated and needs to be flushed. Sounded like a PITA, I'm glad someone else did it!!

Well I bought a pump I'm close to getting it off. It's been all nuts and bolts so far. But I ran into a problem. Getting the fan off sucks! Basically a 1 7/8 wrench and you hit it till it breaks loose. Some people uses a air hammer. But heard that can damage the nut. Wouldn't be so bad if you could get a great swing at it
