4X4 light on need help!

My 4X4 dash light is on, yet the switch is off. I unpluged the tranfer case just in case it wanted to actually go in while driving. Anyone have any idea why its doing this?

I had a similar problem... Started truck up one morning and found it was locked into 4x4 Low. Dash switch was in the 2wd position. Dropped approximately $400 on a new 4x4 module at the dealership. So far so good.

Good luck

Mine was on as well. I couldn't figure it out. But I hit a set of railroad tracks in 2wd today with the 4x4 light on. Guess what hitting those tracks at 70mph got the light to go off.

I stopped put the truck in 4wheeldrive and it worked. Switched it back to 2wd and the light went back off. So I don't know what causes it. But if happens again I know how to fix it.

I didn't get air, but although I do hit these tracks daily on my way to work. No wonder why I need new sway bar bushings and shocks.

i havnt dealt with this issue on a superduty yet, but on the f-150 they have a switch on the transfer case which can get sticky and cause the light to be on, or prevent the gem from engaging the front axle. Or it will short out causing the light to be on all the time.
