Front Axle Rubber Seal / Cover? w-PICS!

Hi Guys,

I noticed on the passengers side front axle there is a rubber cover or seal just hanging loose. It appears that it is to cover the back side of some bearings. Does any one know how this is suppose to stay attached?

I trying to snap it on there is nothing to push it on to. I think it just needs to be greased up and pushed on to the back side of the bearing housing?

Anyone have or seen this? Again this is just a rubber ring that seems to be used to cover dirt or water from going into the axle. The drivers side has one as well and it's still attached, but bearly.

Thanks for your help!!

That is a dust seal. And from what I understand you have to remove the whole hub/knuckle assy to replace.

Mine have been like that for a long time, doing ball joints soon and will replace then. I wouldn't tear it all apart to fix just that.

yea, it doesn't really do much. Inside your axle there's another seal that leads to the diff keeping dust and debris out of there. I replaced mine about 3 months ago when I replaced my ball joints and the only thing I noticed was some sand and dirt sitting around the axle housing. Really not that big of a deal. And definitely not worth tearing the truck apart since my truck required me to buy a special tool for the steering knuckle axle shaft seal..thing cost like 200 bones.
