bad brakes

have a 03 F250 that I just bought and when I apply the breaks they become soft after holding the peadle down. I brought into a dealership and they said it is normal. This does not sound correct to me. it almost feels like a bad master cylinder has any one else had this problem and how did you fix it?

no, the dealer is incorrect, mine doesnt act like that, when i press the brake pedal, my truck stops!! it does sound a bit like a bad master cylinder, like fluid would be bypassing the diaphram. i have had that situation before. not in my truck, but other vehicles.

All depends on what your are actually describing. If your talking about the "spongy" feel in the pedal even though it stops right, thats just the nature of hydroboost......it feels considerably different on pedal application than a vacume boost system

If the pedal "goes away" you have either glazed over the pads and rotors pretty bad or you have a master cylender bleeding by.....

I know it’s an old topic, my truck (2003 6.0 F250 CC SB) is doing the same exact thing, I have replaced the calipers, rotors (went with power slot), pads (hawk pads), Lines, & master cylinder and the breaks still feel the same. It did it when it only had a 4” lift on 35”s now it has a 16” lift on 42”s with all the new parts it’s the same as it was before, I work at valley spring service in phoenix & drive a lot of lifted trucks (on test drives) and notice they stop way better. What else it could be?
