Transfercase Adapter Broken Again
I have a 2003 f250 4x4 Short bed Super Cab 6.0 powerstroke, I paid someone to put new ujoints in since i felt they had a little slack and took my truck for a spin and felt severe vibration from the drive train followed by a boom lost the drive shaft and in the process broke the transfer case adapter in half the transfercase was being held on by the front drive shaft. When i inspected what was left i noticed the u joint had been welded instead of the clips being used.
Well i tracked down a new Transfer case adapter, new drive shaft, u joints had someone put it all together when they took it for a drive the same exact thing happend the guy that put the stuff in said he heard a loud Squeal almost like a motor being locked up followed by a boom. So im back at square one. I figured the first time it was due to the u joints being welded throwing everything off balance but what could have caused this adapter to break a second time?
Could the transfer case be locking up causing the drive shaft to jar the adapter? From searching the forum i really cant find a similar problem and for this to happen to me twice what could be causing this?
Im going to have the transfer case sent to a transmission shop and have them go through it thats the only thing i can think it would be. The rear end has a whine to it but if it was in the rear diff seems like the tires would lock up and i had a dealer ship check it last time i changed my oil and they told me it had slack but had more miles left in it.
