4x4 Question??

So we got a little bit of snow here this morning and I jump in the truck to head to the store. Flip the switch into 4 high and go to back out of the driveway but it would not engage into 4 wheel. (Hubs are in Auto). I think this is because i had limited space to engage it between my other truck and wifes car and i was backing up. So i get out of the truck and turn the hubs to lock jump in and the truck pulls out fine in 4x4. So hopefully all is well with that. My question though is with the hubs locked can you flip the switch back to 2 wheel while driving down the road?? It's been so long I can't remember.

Yes rick you sould be able to turn the 4wd switch back to 2wd when driveing down the road, but your huds will still be locked in. Maybe you have a vaccume leak thats why the auto 4x4 isnt working.

I think the auto's didn't lock in beacause i think you need a certain amount of turns with the front wheels to engage the 4x4. And I didn't have enough room between my other truck and the wife's car and the rear wheels just spun. Maybe i'm wrong?

you guys are correct.... you can switch to 2wd... only thing that will happen is you'll lose around 1-2mpg with your hubs locked in..... your hubs can either have an air leak or you need replacements... because of the cold water could of got in and expanded when it froze making them fail...
