driveline phasing
Hello, I have a 2004 crewcab long bed 4x4 with the famous drone noise at 65mph and up, I had a 6.5 lift installed after I purchased the truck new. I was always running 38x20" Nitto terra mud grapplers, so the tire noise over powered the driveline noise until I went the 35" Nitto Terra Sand Grappler's, which are quiet tires.
The driveline noise is getting worse. I am thinking I have an out of phase driveline and possible rear end problems, since there is excessive rotational play in my pinion flange when placed in neutral. I also have a nasty quick buzz noise at over 60 mph when going from accelloration the decell or visa versa, it sounds exactly like going over the groves on the edge of a highway.. Does anyone have the correct set up specs and pictures for drive line phasing on the two piece drive shafts? I searched the net and cannot find any correct set up specs. I am a seasoned mechanic, but never got into phasing drivelines and will have to do all the work myself, since I am dead az broke these days.. any help would be greatly appreciated.
