Front axle question

Ok hubs are in Auto, switches is in 2wd. If I spin front drive shaft, driver axle will not spin but the passenger side is spinning. I can hold passenger axle and spin driveshaft and axle will not spin until I let go. Shouldn't the axles not spin while drive shaft is spinning ?

This is caused by the spider gears in the front axle, which cause some "drag" and will allow a connected axle shaft to spin under no load. That's why when you hold the axle shaft and repeat the process, the axle wont spin. It's normal.

Right on. I went out and jacked up the front and spun the wheel and the axle wasn't spinning. I thought it was stuck or something and just spinning all the time while driving. Thanks for the info.
