P0500 Speedo and Odo not working

Going down the road the other day all the sudden my cruise shut off and my speedo dropped to zero. Pulled over and killed the truck and started it back up and still no speedo. So i pull back over and pull DTC P0500 Speed Sensor A (VSS). Reset the code and still no speedo. Started checking fuses. None were blown. Stopped at the dealer and bought a speed sensor for the rear differential. Changed it out and low and behold the dayum thing still isnt working. Now it seems the tranny is acting weird in the sense that it doesnt kick down to a low enough gear when full throttle is applied. I know this could be due to the fact that since the speedo isnt working it could mess with the TCM or PCM or ECU. Anyway could the speed sensors in the tranny cause this issue. I need to get this fixed asap cuz i go back to work tomorrow night and thats a 300 mile trip one way. Thanks in advance.
PS: my odometer isnt working either.

well about all I can tell you is the ABS module is supposed to provide the rear wheel speed sensor signal to the PCM for it to infer VSS. Was your abs light ever on? There may be some communication problems going on there.

Yeah the abs light was on due to a broke wire going to the passenger wheel speed sensor. I spliced that back together but that's been over a year ago. The light never went out though. This is the only time I've had an issue like this. All my scanner tells me is that it's a P0500 which should indicate the rear sensor.

yeah but it may not be a sensor, wires can chafe anywhere and I've seen my share of those and broken connectors/pushed out pins

I checked it all the way to the frame where it ties in. Connector seemed alright to along with the pins. Is there a way of checking it to see if it's grounded with a meter? Like would I read voltage or get nothing? Oh and btw the tone ring was fine. OAN: this site needs an iPhone app lol.

any update? Having the same problem. Replaced VSS at $60 and still no speedo and ABS light is on. Wont create any boost past 16psi!

Thanks

There is wiring behind the gauge I pulled my cover on the dash and reconnected the wires that came disconnected over time I had the same issue and it seemed to work for me. Worth a try at least.
