Which way do front carrier bearing caps go?

My truck was hit and run and one of the axle ears got snapped off so I am in the process of replacing my front axle housing. I got just an empty housing from a scrap yard and am rebuilding it with new ring and pinion, carrier and bearings. Basically I want to have it ready to go before I start pulling the old one out and was wondering if anyone knows which way the caps go? with the little tabs in or out?
