4x4 makes AWEFUL noise when engaged

When I turn the switch to put into 4x4 high or low the front end makes an AWEFUL grinding noises. Very loud too. What could this be? It has auto looking hubs. I have tried it both on auto lock and manual lock. Both do the same thing. Please help

Jack up the front end. Lock the hubs 1 at a time and spin the tire by hand and listen. Try both hubs locked also. This should at least narrow it down.
