HELP loud front end noise VIDEO
Quick background, pruchased the truck 1 month ago, 99k miles has auto ESOF with auto hubs. Truck has new ball joints, and swaybar endlinks and bushings. Just yesterday it started making a loud grinding/rubbing coming from the right front wheel when turning left. Now is doing it when I turn left and go over bumps. Thinking it was something hub related, I pulled the hubs off and swapped sides and it still does the same thing. The noise will not happen with the truck jacked up. When I had it up spinning the wheels, look at the video. With both hubs in auto truck is in 2wd watch when I spin the left front, it spins the axle and the drivers side doesn't?
Front axle - YouTube Here is a video of the noise while driving, turn it up its kind of hard to hear! First noise is a 3 sec, then 10 and 12 I am swerving left. Then at 22 I am turning left, and again at 42. Hope this helps thanks. . Last edited by colinmitchell111; 12-20-2011 at 07:39 AM. |

Here are my guesses right off the bat since I have not experienced the sound and truck first hand.
Try and turn the wheel the other way and see if the side that spins and the one that does not, switches sides. report back and let me know. Initial thoughts on damage. Something wrong with the 4x4. |

Ok I'll try that, and I engaged the 4x4 going arround the block after I took the video and it works fine with the same noise.

in the driving video I could not hear the sound.
Got anymore ideas of what you think it is as of now |

Just found out it is my downpipe vibrating against the frame when I turn left. Whew! I also found I do have a hub that wont unlock so I am probably going to pitch these factory hubs and go with some Warn's.

My Truck makes the same noise but when I turn the opposite direction. Idk what the problem is although I haven't checked to see if my exhaust is hitting anything yet. Does your truck also do this in reverse with the wheel cranked one way or the other?
