Exclamation Rear end

I just purchased an '05 350 super duty drw about two weeks ago. Not even a week from purchase, i started to hear a loud noise coming from the rear end every time i shift into reverse from N. I took the truck in, and they said the shims went bad. the truck only had 400 miles on it. does anyone have any idea why this happened or are they trying to cover up a bigger problem. Thanks.

there are very few problems with the superduty rear ends, and odds are what happened was it was a miscut ringear or pinion shaft that they replaced when they put the new shims in. shims dont usually fail, unless another part, ussually a bearing(rare) or part of the gears(also rare) fails too

Yeah lenny it's likely you just got one of the rare ones that failed prematurely. As long as i've been on this forum your thread is the first of it's kind. Welcome to the forum by the way!
