Bearing letting go and taken the gears out

i have a 2005 f-350 reg cab long bed and its got 44,000 miles on it i bought used at a dealer the truck had a 5th wheel and a plow and i noticed just driving that i had a humming sound coming from the rearend like i had mud tires on my truck well i brought to a dealer today and they took it all part and a bearing let go and tore all the gears apart in the rearend has anyone else had this problem yet?

Man.. With only 44,000 miles you should ask about a good faith warranty on the rear end.

yea its on warrenty and i also bought the ford extended warrenty 6 year 100,000 miles

Maybe a "bearing let go" is dealer code for not topping off the differental when they serviced it

he did say in another thread that it needed a pinion seal at 37,000mi.it probably ran low for awhile and did some damage.these trucks dont hold a lot of oil in the diffs. what looks like a very minor leak could empty your diff in a couple months or less if let go.

Yeah, that was my guess because of the "humming" sound. Hey good thing he's got a good warranty!

well i just found out from the dealer that the rear end in my trucks has been worked on previously and when the tore the rear end apart and put it back together they never put a seal in it which caused my rear end to go
