Ok i engaged my 4wd yesterday and went to take it out and it is stuck in 4 low!!! I changed the selector motor on the transfer case in good hopes that it would fix it and that did not fix it!!! Not sure if this will help or not, but it might be a vacuum leak. Do you notice your A/C switich from the vents to the defrost whenever you try switching the 2WD-4WD switch on the dash? If so, it very well could be a vacuum leak. Other than that, not really sure... here's a bump for you though. Let us know what it was if you already figured it out.

Well thank you for the suggestion. It worked! My 4x4 worked perfectly until this morning. never an issue. I parked the truck last night with 4 low engaged, then this morning it wouldn't come out of 4 low even with the selector switch on 2H. The indicator on the dash was working fine, I checked the fuses and relays and looked for any obvious vacuum leaks. Then I came upon your post and gave it a shot...presto! Thanks so much. I've been having a rough go of it lately, I needed a break. Something simple...amen!

Marcel

I know this is an old thread, but I felt it needed a revival.

what did u do put it in neutral and let the motor do it's thing ??

the vacuum has nothing to do with being stuck in 4 low or anything at all to do with the transfer case that was a useless suggestion

Whats bad is how many times Ive had to tell people that....I mean not once or twice, but alot.....Ford ESOF is not like the old school 4L like my jeep that just required finesse with brute force to put it in to 4L. Its electronic and requires something harder....your brain and memory.....Neutral to go out of and into 4L.
