Vbration Dampener on driveline?

Hi all,
I have an 04 powerstroke excursion with a vibration which seems to happen all the time and at all speeds. I crawled around under the vehicle and looked everything over. I found what looks like a vibration dampener mounted to the driveshaft near the rear diff. The rubber is missing about half the way around, and the metal part is not straight on the shaft. Is this some sort of dampener, and do you think this might be the problem?
Thanks,
Jason

Not sure about yours, but some trucks do have dampers on the driveline, and, if rubber is missing or outer ring is walking out, that would definately set up a vibration.

Mine is pretty crooked. I measured the back of it and there is a one inch gap on one side, and about a quarter inch on the other. Is this part replaceable? It almost looks as though it wont slide over the welds on the yoke. Does this mean a new driveline, or should I just cut it off?

just bought an 05 that has a vibration. It seems to show up at 42 mph and at 55+or-2mph and again at and gets bad from there up.I took it to a mech and he took the shaft off and put it back on 180 deg. The problem seemed to have sort of gone away but is now starting to come back after 700 miles. Any Ideas anybody.

Didn't mention the type truck? I get a vibration that starts in around 45 up thru 50, then smooths out and comes back around 70. Since I have a 2 piece drive shaft, I've been told to add some spacer shims on the center support. One of these days, guess I'm going to have to try.

If it were me, I'd cut it off. I'd also start shopping around for a replacement shaft. Maybe somebody else can give more advice. I do know that driveshafts can be balanced. Maybe it really needs this dampener - I don't honestly know.

I would just take it to a drive line shop and have them balance it for you
