4 Wheel Drive problem

I have an 2000 F250 6.0L and you have to get out of the truck to lock in the hubs to be in 4x4 mode. For some reason they are not engauging. I thought that the 4x4 could be locked in either in manual or locking the hubs mode. It may be a vauccum problem, but I am not sure and any help would be greatly appreciated.

definately check the vacuum lines. they may be cracked or something. it may be your vacuum also. hopefully a tech will chime in and give a little more info on this.
