BUMP~THUMP!

I need input here! When taking off from a dead stop, I hear a "bumping~thumping" noise,, almost like something has allot of play. The sound also comes when coming to a stop. If I take off slow for about 10 ft, then get on it, it will thump. When stopping, the sound does not happen until a full stop.
HELP~~.......
Thanks.
Joe

Well,, it seems that I need a new rear end.... Too much play in there. Any suggestions? Currently, it is a standard 10.5. I want to go poz! Has anyone heard of "Powertrax"~or ""Truetrac"?? I have heard that these will just slip into the existing..Thoughts????? I need to get back on track with my other "must do list" for the 6.0!!!

Power trax and true trac are good lunchbox lockers, i have one in my rockcrawling cherokee and its reliable....if your rear end was toast why would it make a noise at stopping? How loud is the thump? You sure its not your u-joints? If you have too much back lash, maybe you just need to tighten up you pinion gear, thats helped me on my cherokee in the past.
