rear diff blown

Well think I maybe a first for this but seeing if anyone else had a problem in the rear diff. I didn't do anything different that I haven't done before but over the weekend did a small burn out and let off the brake to walk it out a little and ended up snapping the pinion shaft and cracking the housing not sure if there is a cause for this or not just wondering.

I had a pinion seak leak that I feel shouldn't of happened. There might be some issues with those Sterling units.
