Drivetrain noise and vibration

I'd appreciate any feedback on the following:

I recently bought a 2006 F350 Super Duty, 6.0 litre
Powerstroke, 4X4, SRW with long bed, ( now has approx 4100 miles.) At speeds around
10 MPH and under, in low and first gear, I hear a "droan" accompanied by
a vibration seemingly coming from the rear end. Generally it is most noticeable when I'm feathering the throttle and seems to disappear as speed increases

While its nothing I can't live with, I'd like to know more about it when my truck goes to the dealer for its first scheduled maintenance.

Apart from that, I haven't found a problem and was tickled to death to see 18.45 MPG possible when babying it up and down the road.

Thanks for any tips...DT

i dont remember if it was aplicable to 06's.....but there was a strange droan coming from the turbocharger bracket on some of the 04's and 05's.....it was a wierd noise/vibration that did not sound at all like it was coming from the turbo pedistal.......there is a TSB to fix it if that is waht it is.....

also....if it is only doing it on sharp turns, it could be clutch pack chatter from the rear end if it has a posi in it..........just a couple ideas.......Marc

Smile Drivetrain noise and vibration

You hit on something, Marc,...it definitely seems more pronounced on slow turns.

If the drive shaft wasn't true and slightly out of balance -- shaft wobble --
do you think that might be the source? Incidentally, I also get a slight amount of shimmy when starting up from a dead stop. Maybe related or maybe not.

Anyway, thanks for the response...DT

look at the tag on your rear end. somewhere on there (dependign on diff type) it will say one number....followed by a space and two numbers.....

4 11 this would be a 4.11 gear ratio......
3 73 3.73 gear ratio.....

now what im looking for is a L inbetween those numbers....

3L 73 would be a 3.73 gear ratio with a posi in it......

if it has this you will need to take it in and have the clutch packs looked at in the rear end.......Marc
